CALL FOR PAPERS

12th International Conference on the Chinese Economy

A new era for China: Growth sustainability and Broaden International Development

CERDI, IDREC, University of Clermont Auvergne, France and CCES, Fudan University, Shanghai, China

The CERDI-IDREC organizes an international conference on the Chinese economy every two years. The conference attracts participants worldwide to address major economic issues and challenges that China and the world are currently facing.  For this 12th edition and for the third time, the conference is organized with CCES, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

The overall theme is A new era for China: Growth sustainability and Broaden International Development

The theme is significant and timely from both the research and policy perspectives.
China’s growth is declining and in the same time, its place in the world economy is increasing. The trade war with the United States is an illustration of the conflict between great powers, and of the threat of the growing technological level of China for the developed economies. Several reforms are expected for the domestic economy and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is supposed to enlarge the China’s influence on the world. There are many debates about internal challenges, as the public and private debts, the aging population, the reform of public firms…, as well as international challenges with the evolution of the BRI projects.

The themes of this conference are mainly:
-    The slowdown of China’s growth
-    The trade relationships
-    The trade war with the USA
-    China’s investment abroad
-    The reform of the State-owned enterprises
-    The environmental policy
-    The renminbi as an international currency
-    The upgrading of technology
-    The relationships between China and the developing economies
-    China’s aid

Keynote speakers:
Jack Hou, California State University, Long Beach, Long Beach, USA
Barry Naughton, University of California, San Diego, USA
Wing Thy Woo, University of California at Davis, USA
Jun Zhang, CCES, Fudan University, Shanghai, China

As for the previous conferences the best papers will be published in the China Economic Review and/or in a book format.
